At the Department of Medicine Retreat held last Wednesday, April 10th, the Welch Center swept the Clinical Research Awards. Core Faculty member Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology Dr. Nisa Maruthur won the Junior Faculty Award for her poster, “Zinc supplementation, insulin secretion, and SLC30A8: A Pharmacogenetic Trial”. Co-investigators on the study include the Welch Center's Core Faculty member Dr. Jeanne Clark.
Welch Center trainee Dr. Tanya Johns won the Fellows Award for her poster, "The Influence of Neighborhood Poverty on Racial Differences in Mortality among U.S. Young Adult Dialysis Patients". Welch Center co-investigators on her project include Dr. John's mentor and Core Faculty member Dr. Ebony Boulware and Associate Faculty member Dr. Deidra Crews.
You may remember that Dr. Maruthur also won the Fellows Award not many years ago. So the award must be a sign of great things to come!
Congratulations to both Dr. Maruthur and Dr. Johns for their award-winning research!
