Dr. Sherita Golden Speaks on Endocrine Disease Disparities

Dr. GoldenThe Welch Center's associate professor Sherita Golden, MD, MPH delivered a major scientific statement on Monday, June 25th, at the Endocrine Society's 94th annual meeting in Houston, TX. Dr. Golden lead a team of experts in developing the statement that she presented as a special workshop entitled "Health Disparities in Endocrine Disorders: Biological, Clinical & Non-Clinical Factors: An Endocrine Society Scientific Statement." The Society holds health disparities as a key advocacy issue, and the document was published online last Friday in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

The statement outlines the research findings on population differences, both biological and socioeconomic, in each of the most widespread endocrine diseases, and then presents a conceptual framework which recognizes population-level determinants of health outcomes as distinct from, yet intertwined with, individual level determinants.
