Dr. Larry Appel Wins Translational Science Award  

Dr. AppelWelch Center Director Lawrence Appel, MD, MPH, will receive yet another award, this time at the Translational Science Meeting being held in Washington, DC, today through Friday. The Awards for Career Achievement and Contributions are granted jointly by the Association for Clinical Research Training, the American Federation for Medical Research, the Society for Clinical and Translational Science, and  the Association for Patient Oriented Research. Dr. Appel has won the Distinguished Investigator Award for Translation from Clinical Use into Public Benefit and Policy.

The Joint Award announcment states that, "Dr. Appel is being recognized for his investigative career, his contributions to public policy, and his leadership in training interdisciplinary researchers. He is an internationally recognized clinical investigator whose research has had a profound impact on cardiovascular-kidney disease prevention policy and health care guidelines." The award will be presented to Dr. Appel at a reception this afternoon, April 18th, at 5:00 pm at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC.
