Dr. Fred Brancati Named University Distinguished Service Professor

Dr. BrancatiGIM Director Frederick L. Brancati, MD, MHS, FACP has had yet another honor bestowed on him recently. On February 16th, Dr. Brancati was notified that he had been appointed University Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine. The title is awarded by the University, upon the recommendation of the President, to recognize exceptional achievements made by select members of the senior faculty.

In his letter to Dr. Brancati informing him of the appointment, Dr. Myron Weisfeldt, Osler Professor of Medicine and Director of the Department of Medicine, cited Dr. Brancati’s “tremendous ongoing contributions to human health in the areas of diabetes mellitus, obesity and cardiovascular disease manifestations” as well as his leadership in mentoring young faculty members and his leadership of the Division of GIM.

As holder of the title University Distinguished Service Professor Dr. Brancati joins a very select company of professors that includes such luminaries as Dr. Solomon Snyder, Director of the Department of Neuroscience, Nobel Laureate Dr. Peter Agre, and Dr. Neil Powe, former Director of the Welch Center and Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine.
