The Welch Center’s Director, Lawrence Appel, MD, MPH, has been elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM), one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. He was one of 70 new members from the United States honored at the organization's 42nd annual meeting in Washington, DC, on October 14, 2012.
The IOM is the health and medicine arm of the National Academy of Sciences. The organization states that its “aim is to help those in government and the private sector make informed health decisions by providing evidence upon which they can rely.” Dr. Appel’s impressive portfolio of clinical trials have certainly contributed to that aim by discovering evidence concerning nutrition and lifestyle modifications that have influenced public policy and national standards.
Congratulations, Dr. Appel, on this distinguished membership!
