Trainee Dr. Shafi Wins NKF Young Investigators Prize

Tariq Shafi, MD, has been awarded the third prize out of eleven presentations in the clinical research category at the Young Investigators’ Forum national competition at the National Kidney Foundation Spring Clinical Meeting in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Shafi was invited to present his work entitled “Thiazide-induced Diabetes is Mediated by Potassium Depletion” as a consequence of having won second prize in the regional competition held at the Mid-Atlantic National Kidney Foundation Fellows Research Forum in February.

Dr. Shafi is a Nephrology Fellow in the JHU School of Medicine, a recipient of a T32 Renal Disease Epidemiology Fellowship and a MHS candidate in the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Shafi’s advisor is Dr. Lawrence Appel, Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology and International Health, Director of the ProHealth Research Unit and a Core Faculty Member of the Welch Center.
