Dr. KaoCongratulations to Welch Center core faculty member, Dr. Linda Kao, on her promotion to Associate Professor of Epidemiology. Dr. Kao's research interests include the epidemiology of diabetes and related conditions. She and her colleagues have conducted several population-based studies nested within the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study and the Third National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (NHANES III) to examine environmental and genetic (candidate gene and admixture mapping) risk factors for the development of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Dr. Kao also has two NIH-funded studies to perform admixture mapping analyses in the ARIC study and the FIND Study (Family Investigation of Diabetes and Nephropathy).
