The Center for Mental Health Initiatives is housed at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in partnership with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Directed by William Eaton, PhD, the Center joins investigators, clinicians, and students from multiple Johns Hopkins schools and departments.
The Center was established in response to an anonymous donation to the Department of Mental Health. The donation was made to fund current projects that strengthen the progress of the Department in achieving its mission and generate tangible benefits for the population of persons with mental disorders.
Center research focuses on areas of research not well-served by current activities in the Department specifically or in general elsewhere. The plight of seriously mentally ill persons in urban settings is the foremost priority. Likewise the plight of those with mental disorders in low resource countries, especially countries with recent collective traumas such as wars or natural disasters, is a priority.
