Developing a Legal Review and Toolkit for Reviewing the Health Claims for Food Marketed to Children and Their Families

This project examines legal action taken against allegedly deceptive health claims on foods and beverages marketed to children. The project’s aims are: 1) conduct a comprehensive legal review of health claims on foods marketed to children that have been the subject of federal, state, or private litigation or governmental regulation; and 2) develop a legal toolkit for policy-makers, regulators, and other stakeholders interested in pursuing potentially deceptive health claims on foods marketed to children. This study was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Healthy Eating Research national program (#70755).
