Haiti Earthquake

The earthquake which struck Haiti on January 12th, 2010, has left the people of Haiti in desperate need of assistance. We are currently working to assemble a team to assist NGOs in their response efforts to meet the needs of those affected by this disaster.

  • Kenya
    MET APPROACH (MOBILIZING, EQUIPPING, AND TRAINING) FOR PRIMARY BEHAVIOR CHANGE IN YOUTH

    Info: Funded through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Samaritan’s Purse (SP) International Relief’s MET approach for primary behavior change in youth is an Abstinence and Behavior Change for Youth (ABY) program and the goal of the program is to assist youth in making healthy choices that prevent HIV through abstinence and faithfulness. Three SP MET teams per country will comprise of a supervisor, two MET trainers, and four mobilizes in target areas of Mozambique, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. The teams will mobilize, equip, and train approximately 6,000 community youth leaders to outreach to 150,000 youth ages 10-24 years through integrated education, mentorship, and care approaches focusing on abstinence before marriage, faithfulness in marriage, stigma associated with HIV, as well as mentoring in community-based service and those at risk for sexual exploitation and abuse. Community youth leaders will promote HIV/AIDS prevention using various communication methods that include character, life skills, and positive interpersonal relationships based on “There is Hope” and “It Takes Courage!” curriculum developed by Kerus Global.

    Info: This USAID project engages US-based NGOs and local counterparts to support community-based activities in support of the global polio eradication initiative. The project supports social mobilization, training and monitoring of mass immunization campaigns and routine immunization programs. The project also provides support---at the local level---to national surveillance systems and other health systems components. The project is located in Angola, Ethiopia, India and Nepal.

    TSEHAI (Technical Support for the Ethiopian HIV/AIDS Initiative)
    Info: The project focuses capacity building and systems improvement in all hospitals providing Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) to persons with HIV/AIDS in four regions of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Benishangul Gumuz, Gambella, SNNPR).

  • Zambia
    Child sexual abuse

    Info: This project explores the mental health and social problems of children who have experienced sexual abuse. The project assesses the situation and problems of children presenting to a clinic for sexual abuse. Eventually the data will be used to design an intervention to address these problems and assess its impact.

    Gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo

    Info: This project is a collaboration with the International Rescue Committee to assess the needs of victims of gender based violence living in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the impact of IRC programming.

      Addressing psychosocial problems resulting from the conflict in Aceh, Indonesia
      Info: Persons living in Aceh, Indonesia face psychosocial problems resulting from the insurgency in that province. this project partners with the International Catholic Migration Commission to assess the impact of their counseling and psychotherapy program to address these needs.

      Post-tsunami research & technical support
      Info: Following the 2004 tsunami, we conducted surveys of the affected population in Indonesia to inform humanitarian assistance as well as assess tsunami impact in terms of mortality and injury. We also worked with Mercy Corps and provided technical assistance for program monitoring and evaluation, including evaluations of cash grants and cash for work programs among.
