East Baltimore Health Resource Fair

Saturday, May 8, 2004
 1 – 4 p.m
.

St. Wenceslaus Church
 2100 Madison Street
 Baltimore, Md.

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is co-sponsoring a health resource fair for the residents of East Baltimore on Saturday, May 8. The fair will be held from 1-4 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Church in East Baltimore. Booths and displays will provide parents and children with information on lead poisoning, child safety and safety information regarding neighborhood housing demolitions. The displays were created by students from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

The event is sponsored in conjunction with the Environmental Justice Community Partnership Board, which was established to foster better communication between the School of Public Health and the community. Together, they work to translate the environmental research conducted by the School into practical information for the community. In return, the board provides community input to help researchers focus on the problems and issues of concern to the public.

Recently, the School and the Environmental Justice Community Partnership created education programs for residents on lead poisoning and trained workers to inform the community about upcoming demolitions and safety practices.

The program is funded by a grant from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences.
