Coffee House Opened at School of Public Health

A week’s worth of specials has been planned for the grand opening of The Daily Grind Coffee House, a coffee and light fare café that was recently built at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. For the week of March 22-26, patrons will receive 1/2 off the price of coffee on Monday, a $1.25 discount on muffins and scones on Tuesday, 1/2 off the price of fountain and Italian sodas on Wednesday, 25 cents off coffee and espresso on Thursday, and $1 off the price of sandwiches and salads on Friday.

The café is on the second floor, above the Monument Street entrance to the School. The Daily Grind boasts daily specials, as well as wraps, salads, and sandwiches that are made daily. Customers can also get snacks, soup, yogurt, soda, and juices. The bakery items are brought in daily by A Scone Co., which is located in Baltimore.

For those looking for a shot of caffeine, Daily Grind employees will prepare made-to-order espresso and coffee. The café gets its coffee from Key Coffee, a local Baltimore roaster.

Manager Julie Kitt explained that plans for a café at the School have been in the works for nearly five years. The space for the coffee house was recently completed as part of the School’s newly constructed teaching and research additions.

She said, “We offer wonderful, fresh products and are happy to be here to give students, faculty, and staff another option for breakfast, snacks, lunch, and even an early dinner.”

The Daily Grind is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The JHSPH location is the third of its kind. The JHSPH location and the one in the JHU Broadway Research Building are offshoots of the original in Fell's Point.

If you have questions or comments for The Daily Grind, email coffee@jhsph.edu. If you’d like to view a full menu or read a complete history of the coffee house, visit www.grind.com. --Kenna Brigham
