MENTAL HEALTH AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

On Wednesday, October 15, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health will hold a day-long conference to examine mental health and disaster preparedness. Topics to be discussed will include:

  • The psychological nature of terrorism
  • The public’s behavior and response to previous disasters
  • Applying psychological first aid techniques to co-workers, patients and the public
  • Best practices in the field of mental health and disaster preparedness
  • Developing a strategic plan for mental health preparedness
  • Providing mental health care for the caregivers during a disaster

The conference is the School of Public Health’s latest training session to address various aspects of terrorism and public health preparedness. It is sponsored by the School’s Center for Public Health Preparedness and MidAtlantic Public Health Training Center, which work in conjunction with the Johns Hopkins Institute for Global Health and Security.
