On Wednesday, January 27, the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute will host "Addressing and Overcoming Health Disparities: The Challenge in Urban America," featuring former United States Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher.
Appointed in 1998 by President Bill Clinton as the 16th Surgeon General of the United States, Dr. Satcher brought national focus and recognition of disparities in health status and health care access and quality for minorities. Today, Dr. Satcher is director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) at Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Satcher established the SHLI in 2006 to develop a diverse group of public health leaders, foster and support leadership strategies, and influence policies and practices toward the reduction and ultimate elimination of disparities in health.
Dr. Satcher’s presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and question and answer session.
Panelists include: Diane Bell McKoy, President and CEO, Associated Black Charities Frances “Toni” Draper, Pastor, Freedom Temple A.M.E. Zion Church Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, Dean, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
