Kay Dickersin, PhD, will join the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with primary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and become director of the Center for Clinical Trials. The Center for Clinical Trials, a joint initiative of the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, supports the conduct of clinical trials for investigators from throughout the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Its faculty, based in many departments, collectively works to advance the methodology and conduct of clinical trials. Dr. Dickersin is currently professor of Medicine and director of the Center for Clinical Trials and Evidence-based Health Care at Brown University. She is internationally known for her work on clinical trials and evidence synthesis and for her insights into the use of research findings to influence policy and medical practice. She is a former student in the Department of Epidemiology and received her PhD from the School of Public Health in 1989. She was a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Medicine before joining Brown in 1998. Curt Meinert, PhD, the founding director of Center for Clinical Trials and a pioneer in the field, planned to step down from leading the Center once a replacement was recruited. He will remain an active investigator and educator with the Center and the Department of Epidemiology. Under his leadership, the Center has become a model venue for carrying out clinical trials and for improving the methodology of trials.
