Morlock Named Associate Dean for Education

Laura Morlock, PhD, was recently named Associate Dean for Education at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

“Laura is an outstanding mentor and faculty member. She is widely admired as a leader and innovator in education, as well as in research and administration,” said Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School. “The only black mark on her otherwise stellar record is that she taught me in an introductory management course when I was an MPH student!”

Morlock earned her doctorate in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University. She has been a professor in the Bloomberg School's Department of Health Policy and Management since 1989 and also serves as the deputy chair of the department and director of the school-wide DrPH program. Morlock’s primary research interest is in how organizational and managerial factors affect the quality and costs of health care.

Morlock replaces Steve Teret who served as Associate Dean for Faculty and Education for three years and recently announced that he was stepping down to a lead a new public health legal clinic at the Bloomberg School.

Some of Teret’s previous duties will be handled by the new Office of Academic Integrity, which will manage prevention efforts and oversee the Bloomberg School’s commitment to academic integrity. The new office will be headed by Terry Brown, PhD, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

“I am grateful to Terry for taking on this new role. Terry enjoys a wealth of experience as a researcher and educator as well as a leader in the School,” said Klag.

Brown has been a member of the School’s faculty for more than three decades and has served four terms on the Faculty Senate and one term as Senate President. He has also been a member of the School’s Committee on Academic Standards since 2002, where he currently serves as chair.
