January 19, 2010 Dear All--
This is a happy message. As those of you who are in our MPH program already know, the four MPH students that were in Haiti when the devastating earthquake struck have returned home safely. They acquitted themselves well. They were quick to contribute to the relief efforts in Port-au-Prince. We are happy to have them back and are proud of their efforts.
I would also like to commend the team at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, our collaborators in Haiti, International SOS and everyone else who assisted in the safe return of our students. Thank you for all that you have done.
Many of you continue to express your eagerness to help with the situation in Haiti. Please feel free to volunteer through the American Red Cross, CEPAR or other organizations. Several of our Haitian faculty who speak Creole are on their way to Haiti as I write.
If you have not done so already, you can help the relief effort by making a charitable donation. Johns Hopkins has compiled a list of organizations providing assistance, which is available here. You can also donate directly to the Center for Refugee and Disaster Response at www.jhsph.edu/refugee/make_a_gift/. Many of you know the good work that Paul Farmer and his organization Partners in Health have accomplished. They are also soliciting funds, see www.standwithhaiti.org/haiti.
Please continue to keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers.
