The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health will host the third annual Public Health Workshop for the Association of the Pacific Rim Universities World Institute (AWI). The event will be hosted for the first time by the Bloomberg School and will feature more than 40 public health leaders from around the Pacific Rim. They will participate in a series of lectures and discussions tailored to address the theme, “Forgoing Public Health Partnerships in Response to the Global Economic Crisis.” The workshops will take place throughout the School June 24 to 26.
Established in 1997, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is a network of 42 leading research universities in the Pacific Rim that promotes economic, scientific and cultural advancement. The AWI was established in 2006 as a forum in which leading researchers, policy advisers and business executives from APRU could address issues of regional and global concern.
“We are pleased to host AWI’s annual workshop, which will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences among 40 prominent public health leaders from around the Pacific Rim,” said Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health. “This year’s event will focus on two significant challenges facing the region: the health impacts of the global economic crisis and the role of universities in strengthening research, public health systems and the public health workforce.”
