Focus at Hopkins: Health policy and management

Goal: To contribute his energy to Chinese health reformation and help impoverished patients through public health policy.

In 2006, the Chinese government began to subsidize health fees for peasants, and cardiothoracic surgeon Tao Jin noticed a dramatic increase in his patient load. This proved to Tao the power health policy could yield and sparked his interest in the field. He comes to Hopkins with the goal of returning to China to influence and refine its national health policies, especially targeting the poor. Tao has published dozens of manuscripts in domestic and international journals and has won a patent from China’s State intellectual Property Office in association with SARS patient monitoring.
