Public Health Certification Exam Information Session

At a November 1, 2007, forum at the Bloomberg School, Bernard Goldstein, chair of the recently formed National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE), addressed how the new credentialing exam for public health professionals is a “transformational approach” to public health. Goldstein, MD, professor and dean emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, answered questions from the audience concerning the exam, which will be conducted August 11-30, 2008.

Developed by the NBPHE over the past two years, with input from national public health organizations and associations, the exam is designed to test knowledge of the five core competencies of public health and the seven cross-cutting areas relevant to contemporary public health. Individuals who pass the exam will be “certified in public health,” and be able to add CPH as a professional credential.
