Ruth Karron Named Chair of FDA Advisory Committee

Ruth Karron, MD

Ruth Karron, MD, professor in the Bloomberg School's Department of International Health, was named chair of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee. The 12-member panel advises the FDA on matters concerning the safety, effectiveness and appropriate use of vaccines and related products. It also recommends which influenza strains should be covered by the vaccinations developed for the coming flu season.

Karron has served as acting chair of the panel since February. Her term as chair will continue through January 2008.
