bahrami

Hossein Bahrami, MD, MPH, a student in the Bloomberg School of Public Health’s departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, received the Jay S. Drotman Memorial Award from the American Public Health Association (APHA). The award recognizes a health worker or student, age 30 or younger, who demonstrates potential by challenging traditional public health policy or practice in a creative and positive manner. The award was presented on November 5 at APHA’s annual meeting held in Boston, Mass.

Bahrami, a PhD candidate in epidemiology, is also pursing a master of health science degree in biostatistics. He is also a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His research interests include cardiovascular disease, heart failure, metabolic syndrome, preventive ophthalmology, hepatitis, glaucoma and clinical and genetic epidemiology.

In 2005, Bahrami was appointed to a three-year term on the APHA Science Board. He also holds a leadership position with the APHA Student Assembly, which was previously known as the Public Health Student Caucus and he is an elected councilor on the Governing Council of the APHA.

The APHA is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world, representing more than 50,000 members from over 50 occupations of public health.
