Jay’s Wolfe Street Café Opens at Bloomberg School of Public Health

Jay’s Restaurant Group, which owns a well known local deli, take-out establishment, restaurant and catering company, has taken over the operation of the ninth-floor cafeteria at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Jay’s Wolfe Street Café opens its doors January 31, 2005. The staff will hand out café gift certificates throughout the day to a few lucky diners.

“We hope to bring diversity to the menu. We want to provide a variety of healthy foods that have an international flare, but also have staple lunch foods for everyone to enjoy,” said Phillip Quick, Jr., vice president of Jay’s Restaurant Group.

Jay’s Wolfe Street Café boasts rotating breakfast and lunch specials, which include home-style meals, as well as Asian, Indian, Mexican/Southwestern, Japanese and Italian dishes. Patrons can also expect a choice of two hot soups every day, as well as prepackaged salads, fruit and sushi. Jay’s signature salads, fresh sandwiches and larger entrees will also be available for under $8. Mr. Quick said that the café will also have pizza, hot dogs, specialty coffees and additional lunch fare items.

The café also provides catering for events and meetings at the School. A menu is available on Jay’s website.

The café is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jay’s offers pre-paid account cards for any amount above $5. Patrons who purchase a card will receive an additional 10 percent credit. For more information, email café@jhsph.edu or call 410-955-3342.

“Jay’s Wolfe Street Café will enhance the environment here at the Bloomberg School. We identified the need to improve the ninth-floor cafeteria and after a thorough review process, determined that Jay’s best matched our requirements for quality, variety and customer service,” said Scott McVicker, director of Support Services.

“We believe in a high level of customer service at Jay’s and you’ll never hear us say ‘We can’t do that.’ Regardless of what may seem important to us, we’ll only succeed if we provide what is important to our customers,” said Mr. Quick.

He encourages all faculty, students and staff to visit the new café to see the changes that have been made. -- Kenna L. Lowe
