Jonathan Weiner Appointed to Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee

Jonathan Weiner, DrPH

Jonathan Weiner, DrPH, professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was appointed as a member to the Medicare Coverage Advisory Committee (MCAC). The Committee advises the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and plays a critical role in charting the course of care that Medicare beneficiaries receive.

The MCAC members convene several times a year to decide what services or technologies will be covered by the national Medicare insurance program, based on the best available research regarding effectiveness. The committee's input is used by CMS to decide what should or should not be covered for the 40 million elderly and disabled Americans that the Medicare program insures.--Tim Parsons
