MMI Professor J. Marie Hardwick Named AAAS Fellow

J. Marie Hardwick, PhD, the David Bodian professor in the W. Harry Feinstone Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science.

The 308 new members this year were elevated to the rank of Fellow because of their efforts to advance science or its applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished. As part of the Section on Medical Sciences, Dr. Hardwick was elected as a Fellow for her contributions to the understanding of programmed cell death, or apoptosis, and its impact on viral infections.

Election as a Fellow of AAAS is an honor bestowed upon members by their peers. A full list of the AAAS Fellows is in the current issue of the News & Notes section of the journal Science.

AAAS Contact: Carol Hoy at 212-724-2282 or choy@aaas.org.

Public Affairs media contacts for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: Kenna Lowe or Tim Parsons at 410-955-6878 or paffairs@jhsph.edu.
