J. Marie Hardwick, PhD, the David Bodian professor in the W. Harry Feinstone Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). The AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science. The 308 new members this year were elevated to the rank of Fellow because of their efforts to advance science or its applications that are deemed scientifically or socially distinguished. As part of the Section on Medical Sciences, Dr. Hardwick was elected as a Fellow for her contributions to the understanding of programmed cell death, or apoptosis, and its impact on viral infections.
