Your participation in the Project SAVE clinical vaccine trials might help find a vaccine to prevent disease and save lives. We will pay you for time and travel expenses, depending on study requirements. We are currently conducting studies in Baltimore, MD and Washington DC for vaccines for: All potential research volunteers first undergo a general screening. This screening is used to evaluate your overall health and to determine your eligibility to participate in the research study. Upon arrival at the CIR, you will be greeted by one of our staff members. He/She will introduce you to a member of our screening team. Each screening team member is trained in the informed consent and screening process, and will be able to answer any questions you might have. Screening visits are conducted 10 am – 3 pm, Monday-Wednesday. The entire screening process takes about 1 ½ to 2 hours to complete. Consenting Process You will be asked to read our screening consent form. This consent form outlines the screening process. If you agree, you will be asked to sign and date the form, giving us permission to evaluate your general health. It is important to note that if at anytime during this visit, something is discovered that will exclude you from participating in a research study, you will be told. Once you have read the consent form, you will be asked to complete a no-fail comprehension quiz. This is to assure that you understand all the major points of the consent form, and to address any parts of the consent form that need clarification. This part of the screening process takes about 25-35 minutes to complete. Completing Paperwork After you have read and signed the consent form and taken the comprehension quiz, you will be asked to complete some paper work. This paper work includes supplying contact information (including your address, phone number, and e-mail address) and completing medical history, and reproductive information (females only) forms. You will also be asked to give consent for HIV testing. This part of the visit takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. Vital Signs Once you have completed the paperwork, your vital signs will be measured. These include your height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and rate of breathing. This part of the visit takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. Specimen Collection After your vital signs are measured, urine and blood samples will be collected. This part of the visit takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. Transportation Reimbursement/End of Visit Once all the screening activities are complete, you will be provided with MTA tokens (enough for 1 day pass) OR a parking validation sticker to cover parking expenses. Parking can be validated at any of our East Baltimore Campus lots, however the Caroline and McElderry parking garages located on Caroline and McElderry Streets are most convenient. You will also be given a return appointment OR told that you will be contacted by a study coordinator in order to schedule your next appointment. |
