HIV and AIDS

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people since it was first discovered in 1981, making it the most deadly disease in history. More than 40 million people in the world are living with HIV. Each day, 16,000 people become newly infected with HIV and 8,000 people die from AIDS. An HIV vaccine could prevent 30 million new infections in the next few decades. HIV presents many challenges to scientists because it rapidly mutates. Even so, there are more than 30 clinical trials with HIV vaccines going on around the world.

The CIR is conducting clinical trials for HIV vaccines. For more information about participating in these studies at the CIR, contact us and one of our study coordinators will be happy to help you.
