Transforming Public Education: Pathway to a Pre-K-12 Future. This Pew Center on the States capstone publication of the work of PreK makes the case for a public education system that begins with pre-k and embeds early learning research and best practices in its improvement efforts. http://www.pewcenteronthestates.org/uploadedFiles/wwwpewcenteronthestatesorg/Initiatives/Pre-K_Education/Pew_PreK_Transforming_Public_Education.pdf 13. No Place for Kids: The Case for Reducing Juvenile Incarceration. The Annie E. Casey Foundation's new report, No Place for Kids: The Case for Reducing Juvenile Incarceration assembles a vast array of evidence to demonstrate that incarcerating kids doesn't work: Youth prisons do not reduce future offending, they waste taxpayer dollars, and they frequently expose youth to dangerous and abusive conditions. The report also shows that many states have substantially reduced their juvenile correctional facility populations in recent years, and it finds that these states have seen no resulting increase in juvenile crime or violence. Finally, the report highlights successful reform efforts from several states and provides recommendations for how states can reduce juvenile incarceration rates and redesign their juvenile correction systems to better serve young people and the public. http://www.aecf.org/OurWork/JuvenileJustice/JuvenileJusticeReport.aspx 14. Issue Brief on Child Maltreatment Prevention. The issue brief from Chapin Hall outlines programs and strategies that are proving beneficial in reducing the likelihood of child maltreatment, such as public awareness efforts, parent education, home visitation, and community prevention efforts. Key challenges and opportunities for the future of child maltreatment prevention are addressed. http://chapinhall.org/research/brief/child-maltreatment-prevention-past-present-and-future?utm_source=ConstantContact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=October Back To Top
