Community-based Participatory Research:
Improving Community Health Through Research, Education and Action

Community-based participatory research encourages the involvement of stakeholders in the research process.  What's more, it has the potential to address important health concerns that "traditional" academic-driven approaches to research have not solved.  For full view of the brochure, click here.

The Center's multidisciplinary research expands our knowledge of risk and protective factors in the prevention of youth violence, enhancing our ability to use developmental pathways both to target interventions and to increase their efficacy. There are currently three Center research projects and three pilot research studies. Following is a brief description of each project as well as links to additional information.

CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS

PREVIOUS RESEARCH PROJECTS

Effects of Minimum Purchase Age Laws for Firearms - Daniel Webster, PhD, Principal Investigator 410.955.0440 dwebster@jhsph.edu
1) Derives estimates of the effects of minimum age restrictions for firearm purchases and possession on validated indicators of firearm availability, rates of suicide, and rates of youth-perpetrated homicides, and 2) Determines whether the effects of these laws depend on the presence of other key laws designed to limit firearm availability to high-risk groups.
