Why Cry When No One's Listening
Why Cry When No One's Listening speaks to the hearts and minds of youth who live in Baltimore’s most crime-ridden neighborhoods. Produced by David Miller, Johns Hopkins University Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence, and LaMarr Darnell Shields, Urban Leadership Institute, the CD represents a collaboration of these organizations with Youth Solutions of East Baltimore and students from the Sound Engineering Studio of Douglass High School in West Baltimore.
This violence prevention CD uses Hip Hop, Spoken Word, Poetry, and Street Interviews to increase awareness of the effects of violence. The short skits woven throughout the CD address real situations that confront urban adolescents—substance abuse, poverty, parental neglect, and apathy—the social issues that plague urban neighborhoods today.
Why Cry When No One's Listening exemplifies non-traditional approaches for reaching urban youth.
