Frequently Asked Questions

Endowed Student Support Funds

May I apply for more than one award?
Yes. As long as you meet the eligibility criteria for each, you may apply for multiple awards.

Do I need to submit separate applications for each award?
Yes. You must submit separate and complete application materials for each award, including letters of recommendation.

Can I use another recommendation letter that I have on file?
It is not recommended. To ensure that your application is given thorough consideration for a particular award, it is best to have a letter of recommendation that speaks specifically to your fit with the intent of the award you are applying for. Generic letters or letters that were written for another purpose weaken your application.

How should my letter of recommendation be submitted?
The letter may be submitted by hard copy or by e-mail to the application contact person listed for the award.

Do I need to submit a transcript?
Only incoming students who do not have a JHSPH academic record will need to submit a transcript to the application contact person listed for the award. An official transcript is strongly recommended.

If I submit using the online application, should I submit paper copies too?
No.

How competitive are these awards?
The Endowed Student Support Fund awards are very competitive. It is very important for your application to specify how your training/research/career goals fit with the intent of the award you are applying for.

When will I know if I have been selected for an award?
Award notifications are made in the spring. The annual Honors & Awards Ceremony is held in May.
