Internships
Looking for an internship? SOURCE posts internships that are announced by our partnering community-based organizations through our SOURCE Weekly Service Scoop, an electronic newsletter that is delivered and posted every Tuesday.
To subscribe to the Scoop, send an email to source@jhsph.edu and type "subscribe" in the subject line. Most internships are non-paid. More offer stipends. Often times, students work with faculty members in order to arrange academic credit for internships. Many students decide to participate in an internship solely to gain the practical experience for their resume or CV.
Developing an Internship
Many of our community-based organizations are happy to create internship opportunities for our talented students. It may take a little extra time and energy, but developing your own internship may help you do what you really want to do!
How to Develop an Internship
First, think about what you want to do and what population you wish to serve.
Search our directory of community-based organizations for possibilities.
Contact an organization and discuss the possibility. You can agree on a job description and schedule.
Contact your faculty advisor or another faculty member to discuss receiving academic credit. All departments have special studies credits available for field applications and research (independent study, special studies, etc).
Agree on a plan with the faculty member, including the number of credits you will earn and how to show your learning (i.e. a paper or presentation).
