Steven Galson, MD, MPH, is the vice president of Global Regulatory Affairs for Amgen and was previously senior vice president for Civilian Health Operations and chief health scientist at Science Applications International Corporation. During his 23 years of government service, Galson has held a variety of high profile positions including his most recent role as Acting Surgeon General of the United States. Formerly, he served as director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research where he provided leadership for the Center’s broad national and international programs in pharmaceutical regulation. Galson began his career in public health service as an epidemiological investigator at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He has also held senior-level positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Galson is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Surgeon General’s Medallion and three Secretary of Energy Gold Awards. He has been a board member of the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a National Children’s Study Federal Advisory Committee Member.
