Richard JacksonRichard Jackson, MD, MPH, is professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences with the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles, and is host of the PBS series Designing Healthy Communities. Jackson is a pediatrician and epidemiologist who has held several leadership positions with the California Health Department, including the top post of state health officer. Prior to working for the state of California, he directed the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Environmental Health. Jackson has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Distinguished Service Award and, most recently, a 2012 Heinz Award for Leadership in the Environment. He is also slated to receive the Sedgwick Memorial Medal from the American Public Health Association later this year.
