Tala Fakhouri, PhD, MPH is a recent graduate of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a disease detective for the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS). During her tenure at the School, Fakhouri focused her studies on epidemiological and biostatistical methods in addition to examining the link between cancer and chronic diseases such as obesity. As a new disease detective Fakhouri will investigate disease outbreaks, examine disease clusters, as well as be exposed to real world public health challenges. After completing the EIS fellowship, she plans to pursue a career in public health practice with a focus on epidemiologic surveillance of chronic diseases and their risk factors, investigation of chronic disease clusters and chronic disease prevention in the Middle East.
