Daniel Scharfstein, ScD, professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, is the 2010 recipient of the Distinguished Alum Award from the Department of Biostatistics at Harvard School of Public Health. The award was established in 2004 to recognize an alum “who has impacted the theory and practice of statistical science through research, methodology, organizational responsibility and teaching.”

Scharfstein earned his master’s degree at Harvard in 1994 and his doctorate in 1996. He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in 1997. Since 2003, he has directed the Bloomberg School’s graduate program in Biostatistics.

“We are proud of Dan and his accomplishments, and we are most grateful for what he has done to impact science and enrich biostatistics here at Johns Hopkins,” said Karen Bandeen-Roche, PhD, MS, professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the Bloomberg School.

Scharfstein will deliver an honorary lecture in conjunction with the award on February 10.
