Bloomberg School Offers Public Health Courses On the Go

Public health education is now available everywhere you are. Free online course content from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is now available on the iPhone® through the new Coursera mobile app. The Bloomberg School of Public Health currently offers 16 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in collaboration with Coursera. Together, these courses have amassed more than 650,000 enrollments from students, educators and public health professionals around the world. 

MOOCs on Coursera are the latest development in the Bloomberg School’s 16-year history of online public health education. The Bloomberg School began offering its MOOCs through Coursera in July 2012 as the first public health content available through the service. Coursera made its app available for download through the Apple App Store™ on December 10. 

“Mobile technology is making knowledge and information more accessible to everyone everywhere,” said Stephen Gange, PhD, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. “I am thrilled that the Bloomberg School is playing an important role in bringing public health education to more people than ever.”

The Bloomberg School’s newest Coursera offerings include the following:

  • Computing for Data Analysis (Begins Jan. 6th)
  • Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp II (Begins Jan. 6th) 
  • Statistical Reasoning for Public Health: Estimation, Inference, & Interpretation (Begins Jan 20th)
  • Introduction to the U.S. Food System: A Public Health Perspective (Begins Jan. 26th)
  • Health for All Through Primary Health Care (Begins Jan. 29th)
  • Design & Interpretation of Clinical Trials (Begins Feb. 14th)
  • Statistical Analysis of fMRI Data (Begins Feb. 24th)
  • Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp I (Begins March 3rd)

Enrollment in the new courses is now open to everyone and lessons will commence at various dates throughout the year.

Johns Hopkins University also provides MOOCs through Coursera from its School of Nursing, School of Medicine and the Berman Bioethics Institute.

In addition to MOOCs, the Bloomberg School of Public Health offers 113 for-credit online courses and publishes teaching materials from 112 courses through the Bloomberg School’s OpenCourseWare site, making it the world’s largest provider of online public health education.
