Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), will offer a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program in Jaipur, India, beginning in fall 2012. The Jaipur-based MPH program is specifically intended for citizens and residents of India and low- and middle-income countries in the region. The program’s focus will be on public health capacity building in developing countries. The curriculum will concentrate on health management skills to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of public health programs and services, with special emphasis on issues facing India.

“As a School, we are committed to promoting public health and sharing our knowledge wherever we can. We are eager to work with our colleagues at the IIHMR on this region-based degree program to train a new generation of public health leaders. Together we can improve health and save lives,” said Michael J. Klag, MD, MPH, dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

IIHMR Director Shiv Gupta, MD, PhD added, “The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health MPH Program in collaboration with IIHMR will be an important milestone in promoting public health and building capacity of health professionals in India and the South East Asia region. It will usher in a new era in providing high quality education and training in public health that will establish a new benchmark in this part of the world.”

The collaborative MPH program will consist of 80 term-credits over a full-time 11-month program. The curriculum will be comprised of 23 didactic classes, plus a practicum and capstone. Classes will be taught primarily at the IIHMR campus in Jaipur, and online. Students will travel to Bloomberg School’s campus in Baltimore, Maryland for two weeks to attend class in-person.
