The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools is a policy and program resource center located at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. The Center works with institutional leaders, state officials and clinical providers to maximize outcomes for children through more effective health programming in schools. The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care advocates for national and state policies, programs and funding for improved school-based health. It provides publications, news, and technical assistance. Several publications deal with securing funding for school-based health care. The Centers for Disease Control has a section on Healthy Schools that includes tools and reference information. The National School Board Association’s School Health section has 101 packets of information on key topics, the School Health Resource Database, up-to-date health news important to school leaders, health-related publications, and links to relevant websites. The National Adolescent Health Information Center has policy and program recommendations, and other tools. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy had numerous resources including the Putting What Works to Work series of publications on effective programs, and the “Emerging Answers: Research Findings on Programs to Reduce Teen Pregnancy” (report by Doug Kirby, Phd that reviews effective programs and lessons learned. ETR Associates’ Resource Center for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (ReCAPP) has many resources including descriptions of effective pregnancy and HIV prevention programs, publications, and tips for students, parents, and educators. School Mental Health The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychological Association have information on children’s mental health issues and tips for families and educators. The Center for School Mental Health Assistance develops and disseminates policy briefs, and promotes the utilization of knowledge and actions to advance successful and innovative mental health policies and programs in schools.
