Strategic Program Planning

This half-day skills development program focuses on integrated program planning. Beginning with a basic review of program logic—“What are we hoping to achieve, and why?”—the session will move on to a thorough discussion of how programs are built. Key elements of writing goals and objectives will be reviewed, and participants will practice writing discreet action objectives. The concept of sequencing objectives, and the importance to determining a realistic time frame for one's program, are introduced. Participants are next guided through an exercise that helps them determine the intended audience and decide on activities, intended products or outcomes, evaluation measures, necessary resources and a time-line for each objective. This activity illustrates the potential of strategic program planning to help identify the need for key partners, and to indicate the funding and in-kind resources necessary to achieve the program’s goals and objectives.
