Carolyn Cumpsty Fowler PhD, MPH & Joan Kub, R.N., Ph.D.

Carolyn Cumpsty Fowler PhD, MPH is an Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHBSPH) with a joint appointment to the School of Nursing.  Carolyn received her PhD from the University of Cape Town, SA while working as a neurosurgery nurse clinician and nurse epidemiologist.  In 1992 she joined the JHBSH faculty where she received her MPH in 1995.  Since 1998, has also served as director of injury prevention for the Baltimore County Department of Health. Carolyn’s academic and practice work focuses on the translation of public health theory to practice and the development of public health competencies in the public health workforce; she teaches extensively.

Joan Kub, R.N., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (SON) with joint appointments in the JHU School of Medicine, and Bloomberg School of Public Health. She received her PhD in Behavioral Sciences from the Bloomberg School of Public Health in 1991.  She coordinates the MSN/MPH program, a joint degree program between the SON and the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She is certified as an advanced public health nurse and her work is focused on youth in schools, primary prevention in the community, as well as training public health professionals.
