Dear Colleagues, We are all saddened by the loss of life and destruction brought about by Hurricane Katrina. Our thoughts and prayers are with the hundreds of thousands of victims throughout the U.S. Gulf Coast whose lives will be affected for years to come. Many of us also have colleagues at Tulane, Louisiana State University and other universities that have been devastated by the storm. We are working with the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) to extend a helping hand to the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. The University is also collaborating with the Association of American Universities (AAU) to develop opportunities for undergraduate students. Relief agencies and public health workers now face the monumental task of aiding the victims and restoring services to the region. As a leader in global health, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is ready to assist in the relief efforts in whatever way we can. Each of us can help the victims of Hurricane Katrina in our own way by contributing to the relief organizations that are providing immediate assistance. The FEMA has a list of government and private agencies that are assisting victims, which is available at www.fema.gov. As more information becomes available, we will be sure to disseminate it.
