History

The Johns Hopkins Biostatistics Center was officially instituted in 1997, through the efforts of Dr Scott L. Zeger, former Chair of the Department of Biostatistics.  The Center was formed to begin to fill the critical need for biostatisticians across the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.  As the small Center began to grow, we collaborated on projects not only from our campus, but from affiliated organizations such as Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins Healthcare System, then larger organizations such as the pharmaceutical companies, biomedical research and technology centers, and managed care organizations.   We also work with non-profit organizations and government agencies.  Our work has taken on even larger impact, with sponsoring a short course on multi-level modeling in Bangladesh and as the coordinating center for biostatistical expertise in clinical research under the University’s new Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR).

We continue to grow, providing our expertise and services to our Hopkins community, our region, and to our global neighbors.
