The mission of the Center for Injury Research and Policy in the Department of Health Policy and Management is to provide leadership in research, education and community outreach for the prevention of injuries and the control of their consequences. To advance this mission, the Center offers an intensive course on injury prevention and control for injury prevention professionals. Principles and Practice of Injury Prevention is for injury prevention professionals who are new to the field or who are seeking to advance their skills in injury prevention. Principles and Practice of Injury Prevention provides an intensive introduction to the field and to the recommended core competencies for injury and violence prevention professionals. Those new to the field and injury prevention professionals seeking to advance their skills will benefit from the comprehensive curriculum and diverse experiences of course faculty and participants. Many of the nation’s leading experts in injury control, from both Johns Hopkins and other institutions, will lead the lectures and discussions. Small group exercises are held to enable participants to use what they are learning in lecture through hands-on practical application. Principles and Practice of Injury Prevention is limited to 60 participants and may be taken for 3 academic credits or for a non-credit certificate of completion. If taken for academic credit, the student will be evaluated on participation in group exercises and a final paper. Credit in this course may be applied toward the Johns Hopkins Certificate in Injury Prevention.
