Trauma Information Exchange Program

tiep
In response to the growing need for a formal network of trauma centers in the U.S, the American Trauma Society established the Trauma Information Exchange Program (TIEP).  Working in collaboration with the Center for Injury Research and Policy, the overall mission of TIEP is to foster the exchange and use of information to improve trauma care. At the core of this program is the comprehensive National Inventory of Trauma Centers, a unique data resource that has steered the direction of TIEP and assisted researchers and policy makers for the past five years.

Major objectives for the next three years include:

  • Maintain and expand the content of the National Inventory of Trauma Centers and continue the development of the National Inventory of Trauma Systems
  • Continue to develop web-based mapping applications to improve measures of access to trauma care and assist states and localities in their assessment of available resources
  • Support the development and exchange of information among the trauma care community, which is vital to understanding the benefits and the needs of trauma care systems and effecting change
  • Increase the understanding among policymakers, legislators and the public about the status, benefits and needs of trauma care systems
  • Continue to provide the CDC and other government agencies with information on the status of trauma centers and systems, and highlight their roles in national preparedness.

The first-ever national clearinghouse on statistics, data and other information critical to determining trauma trends and improving the nation’s trauma care, TIEP compliments federal public health inventory and networking efforts and is considered to be an active partner in several public health alert programs.
