Graduate Seminar Series in Injury Research and Policy

The third term injury seminar is held on Tuesdays from 12:10 to 1:20 p.m., room W2008. On the occasion of the Injury Center's 25th anniversary the theme for this term is Celebrating Silver, Reaching for Gold: Successes and Remaining Challenges in Injury Research. Students may take the seminars for one unit credit each term. Faculty, students and those who are interested from outside the School are welcome to attend any and all of the seminars. There is no need for registration and no charge to attend.

January 24th - "Falling Through the Cracks: Designs that Kill", Professor Susan Baker, Founding Director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy.

January 31st - "Fire Safety in America: Your Role in Public Health", Meri-K Appy, President, Appy & Associates and Injury Center Advisory Board Member and Shannon Frattaroli, PhD, Assistant Professor, Center for Injury Research and Policy

February 6th* - "If Workforce Health is Economic Health, We Have A Problem", Dr. John Howard, Director, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health

February 14th - "Litigation for Injury Prevention", Professor Stephen Teret, Director, Center for Law and the Public's Health and former director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy

February 21st - "Hot Topics in Doctoral Research", Michael Kim - Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs: A Policy to Reduce Opiate Poisonings and David Swedler -A Mixed Methods Approach to Distracted Driving in Commercial Truck Drivers.

February 28th - "Epidemiologic Contributions to Aviation Safety", Dr. Guohua Li, Professor of Epidemiology, Colombia University and alumni of the Center for Injury Research and Policy

March 6th** - Dr. Linda Degutis, Director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control

*The February 6th talk will be held on a Monday in W2030 and is jointly sponsored by the Education and Research Center for Occupational Health and Safety.

**The March 6th talk is jointly sponsored by the Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence.
