Clinical Trials/Clinical Investigator Resources

The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now has a new Clinical Investigator website for clinical investigators and others involved with clinical trials. For clinical investigators and others, such as as medical students, who are unfamiliar with FDA's role in clinical research, the introduction of the website provides information as to where to begin on the website and identifies the information which should be read first. Also the website has a specific section that provides FDA's guidance and regulations on the Protection of Human Subjects in Clinical Trials.

The U.S. National Institutes of Health, through its National Library of Medicine, has developed ClinicalTrials.gov to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies.

Other Clinical Research Training Programs

Designed primarily for Duke clinical fellows who are training for academic careers, this program offers formal courses in research design, statistical analysis, decision analysis, research ethics and research management. Students who complete a prescribed course of study in the program are awarded a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research degree by the School of Medicine.

In keeping with a commitment to clinical research development, Emory University offers the Masters of Science in Clinical Research degree. The Clinical Research Curriculum Award (CRCA) Program and MSCR degree are designed to help prepare participants for careers as clinical research scientists. Investigators undertaking clinical research must couple their knowledge of medicine with analytic sciences.
