We are pleased that you have accepted the responsibility of committee member, academic advisor or research preceptor for one or more of our Graduate Training Program for Clinical Investigation (GTPCI) students. We would like to take this opportunity to indicate some ways in which our interdepartmental training program may differ in its advisory and mentorship process from traditional department-based School of Public Health programs. Unlike other academic departments within the School of Public Health, GTPCI PhD students normally have an assigned academic advisor from the Program faculty, in addition to a research preceptor (mentor) who usually comes from the candidate's home division or department within the SOM. Both the advisor and preceptor play very integral roles in the student's progress and both are required to serve on the student's thesis committee. This dual tiered advisory process and the accommodations it requires are further elaborated below. Please read these explanations and contact our program office if you require any additional information or clarification. We would be pleased to speak with you personally about the structure of the GTPCI advisory program should this prove desirable. We hope that you find this web page a useful resource and we welcome your input.
