Certificate in Global Tobacco Control

Selected international participants from developing countries will receive a scholarship that covers all cost associated with the certificate program*, including tuition for the five required courses (18 credits) as well as economy class air travel, housing and per diem for the three-week Graduate Summer Institute of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Baltimore, Maryland.

Applicants must meet the following program obligations:

  • Applicant has taken the TOEFL and received a minimum score of 250 on the computer-based test or 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on the Internet-based test
  • Applicant commits to completing the Introduction to Online Learning Course (IOL) prior to taking the Global Tobacco Control Course online.  IOL information is available at http://distance.jhsph.edu/iol/
  • Applicant commits to completing the Global Tobacco Course online during the 4th term of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's academic year, which runs from March 19, 2008 to May 11, 2008
  • Applicant is able to attend the three-week Graduate Summer Institute of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Baltimore, Maryland, which runs from June 16, 2008 to July 4, 2008
  • Applicant can certify that he/she has never been the recipient of financial support from any tobacco product manufacturer or the parent, subsidiary or affiliate of a tobacco product manufacturer

* Please note: Only students selected from developing countries are eligible to have certificate cost covered by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control. Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health students are not eligible for this funding.
