Goal: To strengthen graduate training and research in reproductive health

The University of West Indies (UWI) seeks to design a comprehensive graduate training and research program in reproductive health at the Mona Campus of the University. A set of core courses in reproductive health is now available to several of the existing and proposed master's-level programs in population, health, communication and behavior change. In future the new courses will be made available to other campuses via the Internet and distance education (e.g., videoconferencing).

The UWI collaboration with the Gates Institute is an important stepping stone towards achieving three goals: 1) to design and deliver core graduate courses in reproductive health; 2) to strengthen faculty skills and graduate training in population analysis, social research and reproductive health; and 3) to conduct research that builds knowledge of the factors shaping reproductive health behavior during the critical period of adolescence and youth and of the effectiveness of program responses.
